Water Treatment

Water treatment processes employ a variety of minerals that are used as filter materials, for water purification and improvement. Minerals such as limestone, silica sand, basalt microns, micronized dolomite and anthracite serve for water filtration in the desalination process. In addition, they enhance the water by supplementing natural minerals.

What is desalination?

Desalination of water is actually a system in which water is separated from the substances dissolved in it. The idea is to separate the water from the salts it contains. Brackish water is usually involved in the process, with a salt concentration of up to ten thousand milligrams of salt per liter. Seawater too, is used, where the salt concentration amounts to 40 thousand milligrams per liter. Through desalination, previously undrinkable water is turned into drinking water which reaches every household in Israel.

Method of desalination

The most common desalination method uses membranes. The salty water is forced through membranes that allow only water to pass and excludes salt. The water passing through becomes drinking water while the water remaining in the solutions is returned to its natural origin. Israel is known worldwide as an expert in the water desalination technology. This expertise is sold worldwide.

Drinking water – stamp of approval

Zmitut has a license that allows her to use several materials in the processing of drinking water. The Plant has a permit issued by the Standards Institute of Israel to use its stamp of approval on chemicals designated to treat drinking water: Calcium Carbonate. According to IS 5438 Part 12.
